Adult Services Mayo
Enable Ireland Mayo provides social work & family support and assistive technology services to adults living in Co. Mayo.
A Draft National Policy & Procedures for safeguarding Adults with Disabilities was drawn up in 2014 by a national group within the HSE. This was followed by the HSE Social Care Division drawing up a National Policy & Procedures for Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at Risk of Abuse which would apply to people with disabilities and the elderly. The social worker provides support to adults referred to the service who are potentially at risk. The aim is to minimise the likelihood of risk or its potential impact while respecting an ambition that the individual is entitled to live a normalised life to the fullest extent possible.
The Assistive Technology Regional Team are a specialist Enable Ireland team. Team members can include; Occupational therapists, Speech and language therapists, Clinical engineering technicians & support assistants.
The team offers support throughout Counties Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.
The A.T. - Regional Team provides two referral routes based on the age of the individual being referred;
1. Child / Young adult: For children / young adults under the care of a Children’s Disability Network Team (C.D.N.T.) or Primary Care, referrals are accepted from clinicians (e.g. Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Speech & Language Therapist, or Psychologist) involved with the child / young adult.
2. Adults: Referrals for adults (up to the age of 65) with a primary physical disability, acquired injury, or neurological condition can be made by a clinician working in the health care system or privately, as long as they’re are available to support the Service User through their episode of care.
For more information on either referral route, or to request a referral form, please contact a member of the Assistive Technology team at (091) 545 800, by email at atwest@enableireland.ie.
