Enable Ireland service owner Jessica Keegan released her very first book of poetry earlier in the year. Jessica attends our adult services in Quinn’s Cross, Limerick where she also hosts weekly poetry sessions. She has been a service owner for the past thirteen years with Enable Ireland adult services in Limerick and Ennis. Jessica joined Thursday Club in our service centre, a poetry club which allowed her to create and bring her own poetry to. Poetry gave Jessica an avenue to express herself and the challenges she has had to experience throughout her life as a wheelchair user.
Jessica first started to create poetry at the age of just 11 and now at the age of 32 she has published her first book of poetry, ’My angels and demons through poetry’. This is a day that Jessica never thought she would see happening. With the support of staff from Enable Ireland, Jess said her “lifelong dream has come through. Having my own published poetry book makes me feel very happy, peaceful and grateful”
Dolores Ryan, centre manager of Enable Ireland Limerick says, “This book is really something for us all. It talks about challenges, low times and joy in our lives. Jess is honest, open and has always advocated for people with disabilities – she bares her soul in this book.”
‘My Angels & Demons’ is available for purchase for €10 from Enable Ireland Limerick Adult Services in Mungret. Jessica has ensured that proceeds from her book of poetry will go to the Pieta House Limerick. You can contact the centre on (061) 301 830 or by emailing kshinners@enableireland.ie.
